Energy audits, assessments and rebates in Toronto.

Toronto has more energy rules and more energy money than anywhere else in Ontario. Buildings face two reporting deadlines, homeowners can finance upgrades on their property tax bill, and commercial owners can borrow from the City at its own rate.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT IN TORONTO

Local rules, programs and utilities.

Two reporting deadlines

Buildings of 50,000 sq ft and up report to Ontario by July 1 and to the City by July 2. From 2027, Toronto buildings of 10,000 to 49,999 sq ft report to the City too, first by July 2, 2027.

Home Energy Loan Program (HELP)

Toronto homeowners can borrow up to $125,000 or 10% of the property's assessed value, whichever is lower, repaid on the property tax bill. An assessment by a registered Energy Advisor is part of the process.

Energy Retrofit Loans for buildings

The City lends up to 100% of a project's cost at its borrowing rate, repaid over up to 30 years, including for condo common areas.
