The National Heat Pump Rebate is a new federal grant of $2,000, or up to $10,000 for low- to median-income households, for installing an eligible electric heat pump. It opens through an online portal in early 2027, needs no energy audit, and covers eligible installations from November 1, 2026.
If you are replacing a furnace or air conditioner this winter, the rebate can already apply.

Replacing a furnace this winter?
About one million home heating systems are replaced in Canada each year, most after an unexpected failure. If yours fails between now and the launch, a heat pump installed from November 1, 2026 may still qualify. Before you sign a quote:
Either $2,000, or up to $10,000 for low- to median-income households.
When can I apply?
The online portal opens in early 2027. Eligible heat pumps installed on or after November 1, 2026 can be claimed once it launches.
Do I need an energy audit?
No. The federal government says no energy audit is required before or after installation. A proper sizing calculation is still worth doing so the system suits your home.
Can I combine it with Ontario rebates?
Full eligibility and stacking rules are due from November 1, 2026. Check before you rely on combining it with Home Renovation Savings.
