Crawford Lake Visitor Center – GICB Audit

At Next Level Consulting, we performed a comprehensive ASHRAE Level II Energy Audit for the Crawford Lake Visitor Center, focusing on enhancing energy performance and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This detailed assessment covered key areas such as the building envelope, mechanical and electrical systems, and lighting.

Key Upgrades & Recommendations:

  1. LED Lighting Retrofit: By upgrading all fluorescent lights to LED fixtures, the facility achieved immediate energy savings.

  2. HVAC System Repair: We identified issues with the heat pumps and provided detailed repair recommendations, boosting heating efficiency by up to 400%.

  3. Building Envelope Improvements: Added insulation to the basement walls and ceiling to minimize heat loss, improving the building’s overall energy efficiency.

  4. Ventilation System Enhancements: Upgrading the existing ventilation system to meet ASHRAE 62.2016 standards, ensuring better indoor air quality and occupant comfort.

Results:

  • Energy Savings: The facility saw significant reductions in energy consumption, cutting electricity use by thousands of kWh per year.

  • GHG Reduction: A 12.1% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through lighting upgrades alone, with further reductions through HVAC and ventilation improvements.

We successfully submitted the project to the Greener Infrastructure Canada Building (GICB) initiative, ensuring compliance with all regulations. Additionally, we collaborated with incentive providers, including Natural Resources Canada, to apply for available financial incentives.
